first chose the band/musicians name and the song(s) you will use.
I did Deep Blue by Ladytron and am working an a Tegan & Sara poster using multiple songs.

plan out how you wish to arrange the lettering on a scrap piece of paper. make sure to use block or bubble letters.

then using a pencil or chalk, lightly sketch it out in your piece of fabric or canvas.

draw a border

then begin to write the lyrics on the fabric with a sharpie or fabric pen. make sure to go around the lettering leaving it blank inside the lines.

when done, you may want to go back and erase any pencil lines that are noticeable.

at this point, you can hem the edges or add some fancy fabric embellishments. maybe some sparkles or buttons? be creative!
