i had this skully printed tulle for like, ever. i bought it offa ebay 3 or so years ago at Halloween and never did anything with it till.. now! i like it cuz its gold on one side and silver of the other so when you move its multi colored. :D this dress is super easy to make.

Instructions

  1. Small untitled 1310355879

now to start with you need to measure your waist or hips depending on where you want this to go. next cut your elastic to this length minus about 2 in so it will be snug on you. then cut a strip of fabric for your waist band that's your waist in length and about 8 in tall because were going to fold it over.

  2. Small untitled 1310356141

now cut your tulle into strips. you want enough tulle that you have your waist length time 2.5 for lightly frilly like mine or more if you want super puff. mines only so frilly beacuse i only had about 2 yards of this. now star and cut one strips 5in across the long side of your fabric. then cut one 9in wide, and one 7in, and one twelve inches wide. now i think i had some left over at the bottom hold onto this and you can add it in where ever it fits,

  3. Small untitled 1310356259

now for the pain in the bumm gathering. you wan gather with a gathering foot or you can do the whole sew with long stitch and hand gather. do this along the top of each piece like so <--- do this for each piece gathering them to about 3 in longer than your waist. were putting elastic in so you want them to have some give. now save your sanity and not of BOTH ends so they don't come undone.

  4. Small untitled 1310356709

for the waist band take your waist piece and hem up the bottom and the sides. then lay this piece on your table right side down. then lay all your tulle one on top of the other about 1/2 inch up from the bottom hem. to do this start with the shortest first. this way you will be looking at the inside of the dress when your done. so 5in piece first then 7in then 9in then 12. (put that extra in where it fits between whatever 2 pieces it is shorter and longer than. mine was 12 ish in so i think i cut it in half n put it between 5 and 7. depends on the length of your tool bolt. just make sure your longest piece is the last one

  5. now stitch over them under the gathering stitch you put in. i had to pin the crap out of it. you want to do this before you finish your waist piece or they will all slip and slide.

  6. Small untitled 1310356970

now lay your elastic inside above all that gathering making sure its not above the half way point on you piece were going to fold it over so you want even sides, and stretch it so you can sew it down on the edges of you waist piece.

  7. Small untitled 1310357207

now fold over your waist piece. i made mine out of velvet so it was really forgiving. plus mine was kinda stretchy. now sew closed. you might want to sew it so that you can see the front part so you only have one seam and sew over the first hem you put in.

  8. Small untitled 1310357492

now i put some cute ribbon bits on the front mostly cuz i messed up. when i sewed the tulle together i didn't sew it down before i folded over and a part hung down and totally didn't get sewn in. so i cut that bit out and sewed some lace down the front to make it look like it was on purpose! most of my kewlest additions to my projects are to hide the fact that im still learning how to sew correctly! lol
