My daughter's halloween Costume this year
 <  Image 1 of 4  >

My daughter is two and a half and very small for her age but is a "big girl" now. Both she and I didn't like what they had to offer at the local costume store so I decided to make her this little witch costume. It's not finished yet I still need to make her hat and cape..

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Ok first off I started with a black long sleeved shirt that was a size too big for my daughter

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Then I made a tutu out of the tulle (making it long enough to touch the floor) and I sewed the tutu to the bottom of the black shirt.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

using thick ribbon I made three bows and hand sewed them to the bottom of the shirt (one in the middle and two on each side)

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

I had bought fabric remnants on clearance at walmart and one piece had a bunch of pretty butterflies. I cut out the butterflies and then hand stitched them to the middle of each bow and then stitched the corner of each wing to each side of the loop of the bow making the butterfly look more realistic

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

then I sewed two flowers between the bows

  6. Step 6

I did the same thing to the other butterflies at the collar and shoulder, only stitching the center and tips of the wings. On the butterflies on the shoulder I also added long thin ribbon in black and purple and then sewed buttons up the front and on the cuffs (using more thin ribbon)

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

for the back I took a larger flower and then the leaves and sewed them to the bottom of the shirt. I put shell buttons in the middle of the leaves to hide the holes.

  8. Step 8

I will add more info for the witch hat and the cape when I finish them.

That's so clever! I wonder if I still have time to make a version of that for my girlie. It's her first halloween and she's going to be Rapunzel. :)
