  1. Step 1

    Step 1

First you Must have LIGHT hair color otherwise it won't work, then you have to have SUGAR FREE (HAs to be sugar free unless you want a BIIIIIIIG mess) Kool aid. I prefer darker colors like red or blue.

Now take your conditioner and pore it into a bowl. Depending on if you want a full head of color or just high lights you will need from 1/4 cup to 5 cups also depending on hair length. Just use the amount you think you would need to wash your hair out with.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Second pour in your kool-aid. I only used part of the packet because I just wanted one highlight in my hair, but if you want your whole head then you will need the whole packet. MUST BE SUGAR FREE.

    I used red.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

    Mix it. Mix it well.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

I added a more dense conditioner because the stuff I first put in was too watery.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

this is what mine looked like when I was done.

Now just add to your hair.
For the full hair dye apply to hair then place a shower cap over it and yes you have to sleep in it for it to last. The longer you leave it in the longer it will stay in.

for the highlight look take some tin foil and add to your hair like any other dye. then roll up place something over it because it leaks I found out...(RIP pillow case)

When you wake p rinse your hair out and ta da! All done. Sorry I don't have any pictures of mine, (which turned out really well, well except for the top part didn't dye as dark.) BUt your hair will have a tint of color and is really healthy for your hair. Smells like kool-aid too.
    Ask any questions.

How dark is your hair? Will it tint brown hair?

Thanks for the how-to :]

Oops, wait. Just saw that you said it wouldn't work. Sorry!

When dying yarn with koolaid, you add a bit of vinegar to the dye and that sets the dye in the yarn. I wonder if that would help with dying hair as well?

I would do this when I was a kid. It works really well if you have light hair.

I personally wouldn't use vinegar. That damages your hair and kool-aid already has an acid in it that will help it to stay.

Does the smell go away before the color?

How long does it last? And I have pretty dark brown hair, but I only want subtle streaks of green, do you think this would work for that? I really don't want to dye it any more with chemicals.

I remember girls doing this when I was in elementary school.

Alright. With darker hair it doesnt work. you have to bleach it first. sadly. But you can have fun with it. And as far as the smell goes. It washed out when i took my first shower.

It IS good for one day use. But the length of time you leave it in your hair will also determin the leangth of time it will dye your hair. if you leave it in your hair for 5 minutes then yes it will only last a day. If you leave it in for 8-9 hours like i did, then the result is longer. Mine is still there in fact. very faint but still there.

leaving it on for a couple hours does make it last a little longer, but what really determines how long it will last is the condition of your hair. Your hair cannot hold any kind of color, wheter it be kool aid or permanents, if your hair is in bad codition. it will just come right out and maybe leave you with a not so pretty tint.
