Kitchen Apron

  • Completed Project: Kitchen Apron Picture #1

My first attempt of a much needed accessory

I am still learning machine embroidery, and this is another example of me trying new things. I had a few problems with the lining fabric puckering, but not bad for a first go. I have since learned that I should have used double lines of stitching, so that the fabric frays to the first line, and the second holds it.

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Cut out one piece of denim in the shape of your apron, allowing for hemming, and a second piece for the patterned panel. Cut a smaller piece of lining fabric, and pin to the back of the smaller piece of denim as shown (right side against the denim).

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Draw a design in tailors chalk, making sure that the windows in the pattern fall within the boundary of the pins.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Sew along your drawn lines and cut out the denim within the shapes to reveal the lining fabric beneath.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Pin the panel to the front of the apron, sew around the edge of the pattern, and cut around it. Hem the edges of the apron, and attach straps.
The final pattern will hopefully become more prominent with wear as the edges fray.
