Based on Keyboard Key Word Ornaments by Nicola H.
Not only recycled keyboard keys, but recycled black velvet prom dress for the backing. :)

My keyboard keys had long posts in the back, so it was difficult to get them to lay flat on a ribbon. For these, I used piece of gold cardstock, and a hole punch to create holes equal distances apart.

The backing is pieces of cereal box wrapped in black velvet. One side is completely covered, but I trimmed the velvet on the opposite side so that there was only about centimeter (or 3/4") border around each edge, leaving the middle empty. I then tied a piece of nice ribbon vertically around the ornament, putting a little spot of hot glue at the top to keep it in place, and then tied it up together with a gold ribbon so there's be some way to hang it on the tree.

Then I glued the cardstock over top of the empty space. The velvet has a high pile, so there should be a gap between the cardstock and the cardboard inside the velvet. When you pop your keyboard keys into the holes, there's space for the posts! Whee!
