Origami for Mindfulness
This kemari ball consists of six units of the traditional origami medal stuck together. It was first created as an origami model but is now also used as a decoration at celebrations and is often found at children’s parties in Western countries.

Step 1Cut both pieces of paper into quarters. Take the first and, colored side up, fold it in half from side to side both ways, opening it out each time.

Step 2Turn it over and fold it in half from corner to corner both ways, again opening it out each time. Fold the bottom and top edges into the center to make creases.

Step 3With the paper open again fold the sides into the center to make creases and open out.

Step 4Turn the paper over and fold in all the corners to the center to make creases. Open out.

Step 5Turn the paper back over again and fold the middle of each side over to the middle of the paper. This will allow you to fold a diamond shape at each corner.

Step 6Fold over the two inner edges of each corner diamond so that they meet along the center line of the respective diamond.

Step 7Lift all of the flaps just made, opening them out and pressing them flat.

Step 8To finish, turn the paper over and fold in the corners to create an octagon.

Step 9Repeat on the seven other pieces of paper, then use the paper glue on the folded corners to stick them together to create a ball.
