Traditional Keffeiyeh/Shemagh/Arabic scarf is transformed into a trendy hairclip
I live in Dubai and Keffiyeh/Shemagh/Arabic scarf fashion is really big here.

I had a scarf which I got snagged so rather than waste it, I turned it into a hair clip. I also embellished it with iron-swarowski crystals.

Thinking of making some beads and brooches with it too.

Edited to add: They are really easy to make! My 12 year old daughter is somewhat addicted to making these hairclips now! I had a stall at a craft fair recently and she made about 50 pairs from the big bag of scraps that I have. They were really popular.

  • How to make a hair clip / barrette. Keffiyeh/Arabic Scarf Hair Clips - Step 1
    Step 1

You can find the tutorials to make a covered clip quite easily on this website (I just forgot to take pics!).

You will need to interface the scarf for stiffness. Use quite a stiff interface.

Iron a large square first and then cut out from there after as I found it stops the fabric from slipping and fraying when cutting it.

Apply the Swarowski/rhinestones first before glueing or sewing.

I glued mine with clear UHU and the result was fine. You can also stitch it. My machine is at the Singer Hospital so I'll try that when I get it back.

Did you just sandwhich the top of the clip between the two pieces of fabric?
