3D stars made with ponybeads
 <  Image 1 of 3  >

Alright, here's my tutorial on how to make 3D stars.

Just to let you know, you can make them in a larger size than mine, it's just that I prefer to use fewer ponybeads when I'm making one for a tutorial. Normally I use Rexlace for my stars, but I haven't been able to find mine for a month or so.

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Alright, first things first, thread 10 beads on, like you're making a single.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

After tying off the 'single', I decided to move the beads to show you where you'd be threading string through. Each point that sticks out is where! If you make a larger star with 15 beads instead of 10, then you'll be threading thru every third bead rather than every other one.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Now thread on 3 beads for a star point, and string it through the next anchor bead (that's what I'll call them from here on out).

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Continue to add points (five of them), until you end up with a flat star.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

If you don't want to make a 3D star, and you just want the flat star so you can attach it to a cuff/ladder or something like that, then tie it off and don't trim your strings. If you want to continue, however, and have a 3D star, then onto the next step we go.

  6. Step 6

    Step 6

You're going to keep using your first circle of beads (the pink ones in this case), and you're going to thread on ANOTHER 3 beads, as another point, and pull it through. Continue this all the way 'round once again.

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

Here's a sort of side shot, so you can see that there are two rows of star points now.

  8. Step 8

    Step 8

Here's where it gets just a little trickier, depending on the string you're using and how dexterous you are about pushing beads up and away from others.

You're going for the third row of star points now. Just do the same thing you did with the second row, but be careful to only thread the string through the ponybeads you threaded through with the first and second row, lest you wind up with a funky looking little star.

  9. Step 9

    Step 9

Here's a side shot of all three completed rows.

  10. Step 10

    Step 10

    Now, to make it shape!

You can either use the same colors for the points, or your center color (in this case pink). Use five of that color, and thread the string through one of the 5 point tips, then a pink bead, then through the next tip, then a pink bead, until you can pull it and it closes up. With the larger ones, you can put a bell inside and make it jingly and cute sounding. ^^

  11. Step 11

    Step 11

Repeat step 10 with the other side (if you do a larger one, make sure you put the bell in before closing up the other side).

  12. Step 12

    Step 12

Anddd, finished! Trim your strings, make sure you've knotted it well, and you have a 3D star!
