5, 6, 7, 8!
 <  Image 1 of 7  >

this was a combination of ideas--i like nautical stuff, Victoria's Secret Pink collection, Abercrombie bags, and Juicy Couture bags (the ones with the ribbon)

this combination of ideas took me foreverrrr to find something i could use for school everyday but it goes with my uniform, and i got a lot of compliments-so here it is!

my directions are kinda confusing but if you are used to sewing you'll get the idea

you can use whatever color u like- i used navy blue, white and pink for my bag

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

    cut out your fabric
give yourself a 1/2 seam allowance all the way around each square and for the satin ribbon

i found a pretty sturdy fabric for the bag part, but for the ribbon part i found some crepe back satin because it's cheap and it doesn't slide as much as normal satin

the handle can be whatever length u like- just make sure u have an inch on both sides so u can sew it into your bag.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

sew them (the six rectangles) together like a quilt---make sure the seams are on one side only

make sure the 21x6's on top
    21x7's middle
    21x8's on bottom

    easy as 6 7 8

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

fold it over so the seams show

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

now that you have folded it over, look at the pink stitches, sew on those sides.
now your bag should look like a bag, or a pillowcase--one side should be open; the top.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

fold it while it is still inside out

  6. Step 6

    Step 6

-the bag is still inside out
-go two inches up from the corner and mark it
-then sew a line across but DONT sew the corners together

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

now when you turn it right side out-it should look like this

  8. Step 8

    Step 8

now sew your 2 layers of crepe back satin together for the ribbon so that they have the crepe back part on the inside. like a reaaallllyyyy long pillowcase

allow for 1/2 inch seam on both sides

  9. Step 9

sew a seam for the top of your bag so it doesn't unravel

  10. Step 10

    Step 10

cut the slits for the ribbon to go through--try to get 9 on each side spacing them the way they are in the picture 2 close together, a space, ect. and then 9 is on its own

the bow is going to come out of 1 so make sure the 1&2 on the other side are right next to eachother

    II II II II I

  11. Step 11

now weave your ribbon through, sew the handle(s) on and put in a lining and zipper-and you're done!

the purse i made was reversible- and i made a removable lining with lots of pockets that i could take out and wash

there are a lot of variations you can come up with so have fun!
