In August, my university is hosting a game of Humans vs Zombies, and as this is my first year (and I'm not athletic enough to survive a zombie attack without weapons), I'm determined to be prepared. Our game will be using socks only, rather than Nerf guns, so I decided to design something that would mean I would always have a ball of socks to protect myself with between classes.

Description

In August, my university is hosting a game of Humans vs Zombies, and as this is my first year (and I'm not athletic enough to survive a zombie attack without weapons), I'm determined to be prepared. Our game will be using socks only, rather than Nerf guns, so I decided to design something that would mean I would always have a ball of socks to protect myself with between classes.

Instructions

  1. Small p1150613

Start by deciding how long you want the strap to be by wrapping it around your body as you will wear it. Cut the strap and use a candle to burn the ends to stop fraying.

  2. Small p1150619

Sellotape the two ends of your strap together.

  3. Small p1150620

Stitch ends together and remove sellotape.

  4. Small p1150624

Turn strap around so that the sewn edge is inside. Stitch along this edge again, leaving 1-1.5cm from the edge.

  5. Small p1150626

Mark along your strap and elastic where it will be stitched down. I marked my strap into 8cm spaces, with 1cm in between each space, and my elastic into 11cm spaces, also with 1cm between each space.

  6. Small p1150627

Stitch down the elastic to the strap at each 1cm gap, forming loops for socks with the elastic.

  7. Small p1150630

Stitch down a 13cm strip of elastic to the bottom of the strap in the centre of each 8cm space.

  8. Small p1150636

Flip each strip up over the main elastic and stitch it into the centre (I folded it over the main elastic and sewed it at the bottom of the main elastic, if that makes sense - I sewed through three layers of elastic at once).
