grow your favorite house plants in a cute, portable jar without the cost of buying a whole new plant!
Lately I've been obsessively thinking of ideas to decorate my apartment bedroom this Fall, and I wanted a way to have smaller versions of my favorite plants from my parent's house in my bedroom!
I hope you find this How-To useful and enjoyable, because it was the perfect solution to my space, budget, and decorating problems.

  • How to plant a plant / a flower / a tree. How To Transplant Your Favorite Cutting - Step 1
    Step 1

First, take your glass jar and fill the bottom with small rocks.

(This will give the excess water somewhere to go, and prevent the soil from getting too saturated!)

I put about an inch worth of rocks.

Now fill your jar with potting soil, leaving a few inches of room at the top.

Next, make a good size hole in the center of your jar where you want to place your cutting.

(the depth of this hole will depend on the lenth of your cutting.)

    Step 4

Cut off a part of the plant you would like to transplant.

    Some Tips:
    1. try to cut off a section that looks relatively young, with healthy green leaves.

    2. however, you want your cutting to be simple, with only a few leaves, and NO flowers! this will allow your cutting to put its energy into growing roots to stay alive.

    3. try to cut your section as low as possible, preferrably with some roots.

    Step 5

Place your cutting in the hole you made in step 3, making sure your plants is deep enough to cover all roots.

Now add more potting soil to your jar, filling the space between cutting.

(I put three different cuttings in my jar, just in case one or two of them die!)

    Step 6

Gently give your plants enough water to thoroughly wet the soil, but not so much that they drown.

(You should see some excess water in the rocks at the bottom of the jar!)

Place your newly transplanted cutting in the sunlight and VOILA!

You can now grow your favorite plant in a convenient, appealing jar without the cost of buying a new plant at the store!

(I made another jar with Baby's Tears to give another example.)

    ENJOY! ♥
