Start with a really ugly jewelry box from either your home or a thrift store and remove any removable parts (i typically will not remove handles on really old ones because they tend to break.)

Sand while wearing a protective mask and then paint it a base color

Decorate a you like and paint a clear coat over it to seal it and you are done!
