1. Step 1

First what you need to do is Take the pen apart. Take the brown part you write with out of the top with needle nose pliers but try not to bend the case around it.
Take the part that holds the ink out of the tube and boil it so all the ink comes out. Once its clean stick it back in the pen.
So now the pen is all back together except the very top thingy you write with is gone and the bottom is gone (so you can stick stuff up in there.)

  2. Step 2

Then, while you are still near the stove, put the toothbrush in the boiling water until its soft and bend it into an 'L' shape.
    That will be your handle.

  3. Step 3

Grab your small motor (i used one from an RC car) and attach the eraser to the end, the part that spins around.
Stab the guitar sting into the top, but on the side, of the eraser. If you stick it in the middle it won't work, it has to be on the side.

  4. Step 4

After you do that duct tape the motor to the L shaped toothbrush. Now tape the battery the other side of the part you taped the motor to.
Make sure you tape it so that it doesn't cover the ends where the wires have to touch.
Then tape the pen to the other side of the toothbrush. Make sure the eraser and the end of the pen are facing each other like in the picture.

  5. Step 5

Put the guitar sting that is attached to the eraser through the pen and clip the end to a good length for stabbing ink into skin.

  6. Step 6

To finish your gun all you need to do is Tape one wire to the top of the battery. You leave that taped on forever, and the other wire you just touch it to the other side of the battery when you want it to start.
You can tape and untape that wire to and from the bottom of the battery when you want the gun on or off.

  7. Step 7

To use ink just dip the needle into the ink you are using. India ink is perfect but you can use anything that works for you.
You can practice on different kinds of fruits, i use oranges because they are the easiest because they have pores.

Remember this is Just for practicing on fruits! You will turn out with a reallllly ugly tattoo and most likly an infection if you try it on yourself!

Yes, it is wise to leave real tattoos to the real tattoo artists. If you are THAT interested in becoming a tattoo artist, you can actully get a fairly cheap rig. And you need the proper ink. Just...don't go into it without thinking is all I am saying. I speak from experience.

Haha - totally how the boys do it in prison!

Oranges are great for practice - you peel the orange afterwards, and if you see any ink on the inside, you're going too deep.

And you're right, these are terrible for actual tattoos! A friend of mine was like, "Yeah, I totally did a couple tattoos while I was in prison, I can do your simple little tattoo no problem blah blah blah" ... it was the ugliest thing ever and took FOREVER to heal and was just so gross, I had it immediately covered up by a PRO the second it healed. Besides, haven't you ever seen prison tattoos? They're terrible! Even decent tattoo artists end up laying down bad ink with these guns.
However, these are EXCELLENT for getting a feel for a tattoo machine (ON FRUIT ONLY) if you are considering finding an apprenticeship to learn the trade.

ha! thats great, i made one with the motor of a cd player walkman type thing years ago, to make ink i burned lego pieces between two pie pans (held one over the smoke) and mix the soot the top on caught with toothpaste and water, it worked great, and sharpened the guitar string by rubbing it on the concrete....geeze, but it works!!
