A sketch I did a few semesters ago
We had to make a collection based around something that we're interested in so I chose Greek mythology. This design was inspired by Hermes. For some reason when I scanned it one of her boot lines disappeared le gasp :O

Prepare for a long read Tongue

Well it's not supposed to be literal a lot of my teachers frown on that so we take concepts and modernize them. From what we read Hermes was the messenger of the gods and guide of souls to the underworld which reminded me of what we take in modern times as the grim reaper, thus the cloak like look of the dress. Looking at the clothing from the time it was full draped over the body and held with ties at certain places to give shape (basically a chiton) thus the belt holding in the light fabric giving it that flow. So it's loosely based as far as fabric, style, silhouette, and general design.
