  Step 1

  Light and dark pencil lines.

  Light pencil lines:
  Holding two strands of yellow together, cast on 10.
  Knit in stockinette stitch for 450 rows or whatever length you'd like your scarf.
  Knit 2 together, then stitch to the end of the row. (9 Stitches)
  Purl next row.
  Knit 2 together, then stitch to the end of the row. (8 Stitches)
  Purl next row.
  Knit 2 together, then stitch to the end of the row. (7 Stitches)
  Purl next row.
  Knit 2 together, then stitch to the end of the row. (6 Stitches)
  Purl next row.
  Knit 2 together, then stitch to the end of the row. (5 Stitches)
  Purl next row.
  Knit 2 together, then stitch to the end of the row. (4 Stitches)
  Purl next row.
  Knit 2 together, then stitch to the end of the row. (3 Stitches)
  Purl next row.
  Knit 2 together, then stitch to the end of the row. (2 Stitches)
  Purl next row.
  Knit 2 together, then stitch to the end of the row. (1 Stitche)
  Cast off leaving a long tail.

  Dark pencil lines:
  Holding two strands of brown together, cast on 10.
  Knit in stockinette stitch for 450 rows or whatever length you'd like your scarf.
  Knit the row until the last two stitches, knit two together. (9 Stitches)
  Purl next row.
  Knit the row until the last two stitches, knit two together. (8 Stitches)
  Purl next row.
  Knit the row until the last two stitches, knit two together. (7 Stitches)
  Purl next row.
  Knit the row until the last two stitches, knit two together. (6 Stitches)
  Purl next row.
  Knit the row until the last two stitches, knit two together. (5 Stitches)
  Purl next row.
  Knit the row until the last two stitches, knit two together. (4 Stitches)
  Purl next row.
  Knit the row until the last two stitches, knit two together. (3 Stitches)
  Purl next row.
  Knit the row until the last two stitches, knit two together. (2 Stitches)

  Hold two strands of black yarn together, CO 4.
  Row 1: Knit.

  Row 4: Purl.
  Row 5: K1, increase by 1, knit 2, increase by 1, k1. (8 stitches)
  Row 6: Purl.
  Row 7: K1, increase by 1, knit 2, increase by 1, k1. (10 stitches)
  Row 8: Purl.
  Row 9: K1, increase by 1, knit 2, increase by 1, k1. (12 stitches)
  Row 10: Purl.
  Row 11: K1, increase by 1, knit 2, increase by 1, k1. (14 stitches)
  Row 12: Purl.
  Row 13: K1, increase by 1, knit 2, increase by 1, k1. (16 stitches)
  Row 14: Purl.
  Row 15: K1, increase by 1, knit 2, increase by 1, k1. (18 stitches)
  Row 16: Purl.

  Change colour, by holding one strand of yellow yarn and brown yarn together.

  Row 17: K1, increase by 1, knit 2, increase by 1, k1. (20 stitches)

  Row 20: Purl.

  For the pointed end of the pencil nib, we're going to knit the left and right hand side separately.

  Left side
  Row 39: Knit 2 together, knit 16, knit 2 together. (18 stitches)
  Row 40: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 41: Knit 2 together, knit 14, knit 2 together. (16 stitches)
  Row 42: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 43: Knit 2 together, knit 12, knit 2 together. (14 stitches)
  Row 44: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 45: Knit 2 together, knit 10, knit 2 together. (12 stitches)
  Row 46: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 47: Knit 2 together, knit 8, knit 2 together. (10 stitches)
  Row 48: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 49: Knit 2 together, knit 6, knit 2 together. (8 stitches)
  Row 50: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 51: Knit 2 together, knit 4, knit 2 together. (6 stitches)
  Row 52: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 53: Knit 2 together, knit 2, knit 2 together. (4 stitches)
  Row 54: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 55: Knit 2 together, knit 2 together. (2 stitches)
  Row 56: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 57: Knit 2 together.
  Cast off leaving a long tail.

  Right side
  Row 39: Knit 2 together, knit 16, knit 2 together. (18 stitches)
  Row 40: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 41: Knit 2 together, knit 14, knit 2 together. (16 stitches)
  Row 42: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 43: Knit 2 together, knit 12, knit 2 together. (14 stitches)
  Row 44: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 45: Knit 2 together, knit 10, knit 2 together. (12 stitches)
  Row 46: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 47: Knit 2 together, knit 8, knit 2 together. (10 stitches)
  Row 48: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 49: Knit 2 together, knit 6, knit 2 together. (8 stitches)
  Row 50: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 51: Knit 2 together, knit 4, knit 2 together. (6 stitches)
  Row 52: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 53: Knit 2 together, knit 2, knit 2 together. (4 stitches)
  Row 54: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 55: Knit 2 together, knit 2 together. (2 stitches)
  Row 56: Turn and purl back to the start of the row.
  Row 57: Knit 2 together.
  Cast off leaving a long tail.

  Step 3

  Using a strand of black yarn and a yarn needle, stitch the brown and yellow pencil stripes to the end of the pencil nib, matching the slants together.

  Step 4

  Stitch the pencil stripes together.

  Using black yarn.
  CO 40
  Stitch in stockinette stitch for 30 rows.
  Cast off.
  Stitch to the end of the pencil.

  Using pink yarn
  CO 40
  Stitch in stockinette stitch for 20 rows.
  Cast off.
  Stitch to the end of the pencil.

  Weave in the loose ends and block your scarf.
