  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Ok first you will need a sweater, I used the back of it to make a hat and mittens.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

First cut a half circle out of the sweater, you'll need 2 of these to make the hat.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Stitch around it, leaving excess fabric for stitching, that way it wont be too tight.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Cut off any excess fabric (because I made it a little bigger, to make sure it would fit right).

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

Fold up the bottom of the hat and sew along, to give it a nice clean bottom.

  6. Step 6

Then cut 3 strips off of the sweater, braid them and sew them to the top of the hat.

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

Tada! My son modeling his new hat :)

  8. Step 8

    Enjoy Ya'll

Super cute! Martha Stewart did a very similar thing, where she used knit wool sweaters that she had shrunk in a hot water wash.
