Stitch your own supervillain pyjamas!
I'd been on the hunt for a cute pair of pyjamas for ages but all the cool style, like superhero and dinosaurs were made for children and I was sad I couldn't find any in my size. That's when I was struck by the idea to make my own superhero, or should I say supervillain pyjamas! My favourite comic book character is Harley Quinn, so I had to order two colours of onesie for this project and stitch them together. Which superhero would you like to be at bedtime?

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 1
    Step 1

Buy two identical onesies. One in red and one in black.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 2
    Step 2

Take out you ruler, tape measure and chalk and mark a line under the bust. Making sure it's in exactly the same position on both onesies.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 3
    Step 3

Get a photo of Harley for reference. Make a cut from the edge to the zip, leaving an inch allowance to the top on the left hand side and on to the bottom on the right hand side.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 4
    Step 4

Take a seam ripper and unstitch the left hand side of the top and right hand side of the bottom.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 5
    Step 5

You should be left with a onesie that looks like this. Repeat the same technique for the black onesie, so that you're left with the opposite parts. Remember to change the direction of the seam allowance.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 6
    Step 6

Unstitch the black pieces from their zip and align in place on the red onesie.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 7
    Step 7

I'm terrible at explaining these parts - fold the black top down, so that it's bottom edge is inline with the top of the red leg and pin the front and back edges together. The two chalk lines you marked earlier should be nicely lined up.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 8
    Step 8

Sew along the chalk line to attach the top to the bottom. Then sew the front edge to the zip, the back edge to the red onesie and the top to the hood.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 9
    Step 9

Your onesie should now look like this.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 10
    Step 10

Attach the right black leg using the same technique.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 11
    Step 11

Unstitch the right hand side of the hood and replace with the black side of the hood.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 12
    Step 12

Now we get to make the horns. Lay the hood on top of a piece of paper and sketch out the shape you'd like the horn to be. Cut this out.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 13
    Step 13

Lay two squares of the remnant black fabric on top of each other and pin the template on top. Cut around, leaving a small margin.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 14
    Step 14

Sew around the outline of the horn, leaving the paper in place to guide you, but leaving a small opening so you can turn it inside out.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 15
    Step 15

    Turn the horn inside out.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 16
    Step 16

Fill with stuffing and stitch the opening closed.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 17
    Step 17

Get a mannequin or ask someone to be your model while you pin the horns in place at either side of the hood. Sew in place.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 18
    Step 18

Now we're going to make the collar by laying a piece of white paper over the neck of your onesie and tracing the neckline. Draw four scalloped points similar to ones that Harley has.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 19
    Step 19

Trace around the template on to white fleece, flipping over to draw a complete circle.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 20
    Step 20

Stitch the collar to the neckline of your onesie.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 21
    Step 21

Now we need to make ten poms poms. Draw a circle on paper for your template and trace around on to the fleece twenty times.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 22
    Step 22

Cut your fleece circles out and pin two of each together.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 23
    Step 23

Sew around the circles, leaving a small gap.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 24
    Step 24

Turn inside out and fill with stuffing.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 25
    Step 25

Slip the openings of the pom poms on to the scalloped points of the collar and stitch in place.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 26
    Step 26

Slip the remaining two on to your horns and sew in place.

  • How to make pyjamas / a nightie. Harley Quinn Onesie - Step 27
    Step 27

Now all we need to do is add some felt diamonds for the final touch.

I love this! I've been wanting a onesie for ages but all of the really kool ones are expensive. Harley is one of my favourite Batman characters. I'm definitely going to try this.
