1)I took a bunch of copier/printer paper then cut them in half. I glued one side together with loads of tacky glue, spreading it evenly. I put some heavy books on top of the papers so they would stay together and let it sit for about an hour.

2)Then I made a book jacket with cardstock (folded) and glued the spine, applying pressure.

3)While I let the glue dry, I measured a hankerchief I got from the dollar store and covered the book with it. The extra fabric was used to create a bookmark (partially glued to the back page)and a tab with velcro and a pocket to hold the pen.

Great idea for a simple and inexpensive, yet thoughtful gift. I am going to show this to my son and suggest that he do this for his friends for Christmas with some Dale Earnhart fabric that was originally going to be a pair of sleep pants as all his friends are into Nascar.
Thanks for sharing your idea!
