Han Solo Frozen in Carbonite Drawer Knobs or Cabinet Pulls
Yes, the Han Solo Frozen in Carbonite ice cube tray is awesome, but we felt that it had a calling far beyond beverage cooling. So we grabbed some Sculpey (polymer clay) and made new knobs for our cabinets.

  • How to make furniture. Han Solo Cabinet Pulls - Step 1
    Step 1

Press polymer clay into the ice cube tray, making sure to fill every nook and cranny. Scrape off all of the access, so that the back is flat.

    Step 2

Add little squares made from the same polymer clay, to sink nuts into (easiest if you use a bolt to press it in). Be sure to blend the edges of the squares onto the main clay area, to fully attach everything together.

    Step 3

Carefully remove your little Han's from the ice cube tray (you can leave the nut in place), and bake them according to clay instructions. We always use a toaster oven for this, but a regular oven is fine.

Once they have fully baked/cured, you can pull the nut out using a bolt. Then glue the nut right back into place with some industrial glue (we like E6000 or Goop). Let it dry.

    Step 5

Using acrylic craft paint, paint them a Carbonite-ish pewter.

Remove your old drawer or cabinet pulls, and screw your new ones in! You might not want to use them on super high traffic drawers/cabinets, since the clay can get brittle with a lot of handling.
