Gold Butterfly Foil Nails

  • Completed Project:Gold Butterfly Foil Nails Picture #1

A simple and stylish set of nails!

The project is simple and fairly quick, but looks so much more complex thanks to the foils!

Add to Favorites Add Your Version

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Paint 2-3 coats of your base colour. Choose one that matches a small detail on your foil. The outlines of the flowers/butterflies on the foil I am using are gold, therefore I have chosen a deep gold colour.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Wait to fully dry!!! And I mean fully dry!!! I leave the nails overnight to dry but thats easy to do as they are not attached to my fingers lol!

Now take your foil adhesive, I would recommended a well-known one like Special FX.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Paint on an even coat of the adhesive on. Either all over or on half, its up to you! Make sure you don't use too much, or too little, do it quickly too, don't spend to much time faffing about over it as it starts to dry straight away!

Most important you want an even coat!!!

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

If you are doing this on your natural nails, I would recommended putting adhesive on all the fingernails of one hand. Doing the next few steps, then doing the other hand.

If you are doing it on falsies, then do all 10/20 together. Prehaps just 10 at a time if you are starting out.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

Now, its should have that slight UV glow to it when its wet, this will show up better on darker colours than lighter.

Now you play the waiting game, you will notice it is turning clear.

  6. Step 6

    Step 6

And soon it will be clear!!!!

If your coats were uneven you will have clear nails with UV glowing blobs somewhere - not good!!

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

Lightly tap your finger on the edge of nail. It should feel tacky but should not lift at all, stick to your finger, or leave much of a print. You should just be able to feels it pull slightly at your skin.

  8. Step 8

    Step 8

Now place your foil 'wrong' side down, on the glue. If you can't see where you placed your glue, or remember, touch it lightly with your fingertip and you'll find it!!

Now rub lightly over the nail, get round all the edges. If your glue is just right then the foil will start lifting on its own, if not just start to lift from one corner, the foil should come off on the nail not the other way round.

  9. Step 9

    Step 9

Once rubbed, lift off the foil and wallah!!

  10. Step 10

    Step 10

    Repeat on all your nails.

  11. Step 11

    Step 11

Now with a nail art pen just draw a line down the edge of the foil just to make it nice and crisp.

  12. Step 12

    Step 12

Now with your nail art pen, dot, dot, dot about 1mm apart next to your line (but not touching obviously).

  13. Step 13

    Step 13

Cover with a coat of clear and your done!!!

Oooh yes foil are fabulous creations! I adore them, and more often than not the add something that you couldn't get otherwise, like the holographic ones.

I think the tarten is my favourite though!
