Gingerbread Inspired Doll

The first one I made is called Frank
 <  Image 1 of 4  >

I made this because I wanted an Uglydoll but I wanted to customise it so I made this at the weekend.

I would recomend using old clothes and buttons for this make which saves money and it is eco-friendly.

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Gather all of the things you need and lay them out on the table

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Draw the main template on your A4 sheet of paper and cut it out
(HINT: use a small plate/bowl to draw around for the top od the head)

Draw the lips and/or mouth onto paper and cut out

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Take your fabric and fold it evenly in half - lining up the edges - and pin the template onto the fabric
Draw around the template with tailors chalk and cut around it leaving about a one centimeter margin for seam allowance

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Take the template off and re-pin the two halfs together and mark a two inch gap at the top before you start sewing as this will be the hole to put the stuffing in
Sew the two peices together - I recomend you use back-stitch

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

    Turn the doll inside-out

  6. Step 6

Pin the mouth templates to the felt and cut out (you do not need a margin)
Sew or glue them onto the face but not too far up as you need to attatch the eyes

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

Take two fairly big buttons - preferably slightly different sizes - and sew/glue them onto the face just above the mouth
Take three small pompoms, buttons, sequins, beads or jems and sew/glue them on as jacket buttons

  8. Step 8

    Step 8

Fill the doll with the polystyrene filling and spread it about the body evenly
Stitch up the head using blind stitch or running stitch

  9. Step 9

    Step 9

    Now you are finished!

    Enjoy!

Cute. He could also be adapted to make Southpark's "Kenny".

At first glance I thought this was a spaceman of some sort, then I clicked on the image and seen his button eyes. I like the colors you picked and his smile makes me happy.
