Shoelaces, 'cause who wants to loose his shoes!
I was tired of my boring brown shoelaces, so I made myself some hip colourful ones.

  • Step 1

Get some colourful, long pieces of string. It doesn't really matter what kind of material. I used both cotton and synthetic wool.
Make sure the pieces are long enough, they should be about 1,334 times as long as you want your shoelaces to be.

  • Step 2

Get to braiding! Braiding is pretty easy, but I shall explain it so that anyone can do this.

First you'll tie a knot in 3 pieces of string. Then lay the left strand over the middle one, now the ex-left strand is the middle strand. Then you lay the right strand over the middle strand, now the right strand is the new middle strand. Keep repeating this over and over. I promise you'll get better at it :).

Tip: Stick the start (with the knot) to something solid so that you can pull on the strings and the braiding wont slip out at the beginning. Also don't forget to untangle the ends of the strands, because they'll knot together.

To make fatter shoelaces you can use more strings. If you use a multiple of 3 you just have several strings in each strand...

  • Step 3

When you've come to the end of the shoelace just tie another knot.

  • Step 4

Now, get out you're ducttape and tape the ends of the shoelaces tightly. This really helps when you're going to put them in your shoes.

You can use different tape, but I like ducttape, because it's silvery.

  • Step 5

The shoelaces are finished and now you just need to lace up your shoes and show them to all those hip friends of yours.

Tip: Make the holes for the shoelace a little bigger that makes it easier for the knot to go through the holes.
