  • How to paint a French tip. French Manicure with Diamantes - Step 1
    Step 1

Start off using a natural coloured fleshy nail varnish. Apply 1 smooth coat. (I have used Collection 2000 No. 266 which has a slight sparkle to it.)

    Step 2

Apply another 1-2 coats until you have a rich even colour, this will depend on your nail varnish used.

    Step 3

Now for your white tip. Take your white varnish and do one sweep across from left to right or vice versa, at the tip of the nail keeping with the curved shape of the nail.

    Step 4

Now continue to sweep the polish accross untill you have the desired tip length or until you reach the tip of your finger if you are doing this on natural nails.

Now this may look messy and streaky at the moment, but just move on to the next one, letting the first coat dry.

    Step 5

Continue this sweeping across until your tips are a opaque white, this may take 2-3 more coats depending on the intensity of your varnish.

    Step 6

If you do not wish to add a foil skip ahead to step 10.

As for those who would like to use foil, make sure you have a good quality foil adhesive like Special FX's adhesive.

Not only this but leave your nails to dry THROUGHLY!!! I leave my false nails about 12 hours minimum.

Now apply the adhesive in a smooth, quick coat on the white nail tip only. Do not put too much so that you can see the blue tinge of the adhesive but don't apply to little so that its not smooth.

  • How to paint a French tip. French Manicure with Diamantes - Step 7
    Step 7

Leave to dry until tacky, touch lightly at the edge with your finger tip, its should feels sticky and you should feel it pull at your skin, but it should not stick to your finger or rise from the nail.

  • How to paint a French tip. French Manicure with Diamantes - Step 8
    Step 8

Apply the 'wrong' side of the foil to the stick adhesive and rub lightly. If your adhesive was ready for application then the foil should almost lift off intstantly.

  • How to paint a French tip. French Manicure with Diamantes - Step 9
    Step 9

Apply a coat of clear nail polish, grap your orange stick and dampen the hoof shaped end (I suck it but how you dampen it is up to you). Pick up a diamante on the 'right' side and apply the 'wrong' side of the diamante to the wet clear nail varnish. Stick the first diamante in the centre of the line where the white varnish meets the fleshy tone.

    Step 10

Continue this along one side of the centre diamante, and then apply an equal amount of diamantes the other side.

  • How to paint a French tip. French Manicure with Diamantes - Step 11
    Step 11

Complete on each nail and once dry apply 1-2 coats of clear nail varnish and your done.

With the foils it does, and the diamantes can be tricky when you first start out but it quickens up once you get the hang of things! The quickest part is actually the french manicure bit! Hopefully no more masking tape for you!! I also do 20 nails at a time which takes longer!
