You Will Need

  • Step 1

    Add the second signature and draw the needle directly into the adjacent hole in the second signature to link.

  • How to stitch . French Stitch - Step 2
    Step 2

    Continue with a running stitch that wraps once around the previous signature’s long stitch.

  • Step 3

    Begin with a running stitch along the spine of the first signature.

  • Step 4

    Always tighten the thread before linking the next signature with a true kettle stitch.

    Step 5

    In the following signatures, continue to wrap around the closest leg of the previous signature’s thread. The French pattern will begin to emerge as you add signatures to the sewn spine.
