Embroidered Cushion

  • How to make a stitched cushion. Free As A Bird - Step 1
    Step 1

    Cut out the fabrics pieces.
    One 17in x 17in for the front. Two 17in x 11in for the back.

    Print out the Free As A Bird wording

    Trace the wording on to tracing paper then again on the reverse side using a transfer pencil.
    Press the transfer on to the fabric you'll be using for the front of the cushion.
    Take the embroidery thread and sew around the wording using a chain stitch

    Now working on the cushion back fabric, on the longest edge fold the fabric over an inch and press, do this twice. Repeat on the other back piece of fabric.
    Sew two lines along the edge that has just been pressed.

    Pin the backs to the front fabric, right sides together.
    Overlap the pressed edges by an inch.
    Sew around all four sides.
    Turn the cover the right way and mark out where the button holes will be.
    Make the buttonholes, sew on the buttons and it's done.
