2. Step 2

    Step 2

    Mix in the melted butter.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Crack in the eggs and then add the milk, vanilla essence and lemon juice.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Mix together to form a thick cookie dough.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

Place a small drop of dough on to the tray and spread it out in to thin circle (about 3" diameter). Make a batch of two a time. Cook in the oven at 350° for just over 5 minutes. As soon as the edges turn golden remove the cookie from the oven, place the fortune in the center, fold in half pressing the edges together and then fold it half again. You have to be very fast as it will harden very quickly.

  6. Step 6

    Step 6

Return to the oven and cook for another 3 minutes until the cookies are completely golden.

All temperatures are in centigrade, sorry - this one got messed up when I changed server and the C was removed.

You have to fold the dough at exactly the right time, when the edges first start to turn golden, and fold it very quickly. I've amended the recipe so that this is more obvious. I hope it works out better for you next time.

Oh goodness-- I was so excited to try out this recipe, and it sounded so easy! I made everything according your recipe, but perhaps I'm just not as skilled as you. (: They would not, could not fold. They kept coming out of the oven just looking like hot, molten sugar, and when they hardened they were clear, not opaque. Any idea on what I may have done wrong? (I think it might have been the oven temperature. I can't read what's after the "350"... is it in centigrade or farenheit?)

Dear Ukers...a cup is an actual measurement used mostly in the US and you can find out how many grams are in one by googling it. Tis very confusing when you don't know. You can buy measuring cups over here :D
