A cute and cool dress that is perfect for summer!
I made this dress from scratch. The idea for making it was that I wanted it to be like my other project "Floral Pants Into Cutout Circle Skirt Dress". However, with that dress I had stretchy fabric. For this one, I had non-stretchy cotton. Therefore, I had to modify it a bit and add some darts.

Step 1

Step 2Start off with as many yards of fabric as you need. I am petite, so I used 2 yards. However, I should have gotten 2.5 yards. Therefore, you should definitely get atleast 3-4 yards of fabric.

Step 3Cut out the different pieces of fabric from the main fabric.

Step 4Making a circle skirt is pretty basic, if you need more direction, there are plenty of other tutorials.

Step 5If you don't know which measurements I am talking about, please ask. Otherwise, I will be posting a video shortly on how to measure these measurements.

Step 6How to make the straps

Step 7How to finish the edges of the straps.

Step 8How to create the straps.

Step 9How to hem the back.

Step 10Add elastic and secure the ends.

Step 11Cut the back in half, this will help for inserting the zipper.

Step 12How to create the pleats on the front. A familiarity with pleating will DEFINITELY HELP. Otherwise, you might not want to attempt this.

Step 13How to fold the pleats.

Step 15These are the style of pleats I'm referring to.

Step 16How to attach the front and back pieces (at the sides and with the straps.) I recommend doing a french seam with the side seams unless you have lining fabric. I did not use lining fabric.

Step 17Hem the bottom of the top and the top of the bottom, you could attach them and then fold the edge and sew, but at the time the former seemed easier to me.

Step 18Attach the top and bottom.

Step 19Sew a seam and sew a zipper into the dress. Don't forget to hem the bottom of the dress.

Step 21I DID add two darts on the lower side of the front bodice piece. This is because I have a large bust and the fabric did not curve well around it.
