Take the heel of the sock and cut about 1cm...

I made them out of 4 pairs of my socks that had holes! I LOVE them!! I will send a pic of "My version" whenever I have time to or remember to take a picture!

I have the exact same 2 pairs of socks you have in the picture, hehe.
I think it would look better if you cut it before the heel and then just cut a hole for the thumb..they won't look so much like socks.
