Doctor Who Felt Tardis Bookmark

I made this for a friend because we both love Doctor Who. The details are embroidered on.

This was super easy to do. It just took me a while because it was a prototype.

The pictures for the how to are a work in progress, but the text is all here.

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Draw a pattern on a piece of cardboard (or thick paper depending on if you want to use it to make more than one of these or not.

You can also put in the little light on top of the tardis on the pattern like I did on the original. I decided not to do it for this version.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Use the pattern to trace out two pieces on felt.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Cut the shapes out of the felt.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Put the two pieces of tardis together and make sure they match up.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

Using a picture of a police box/the tardis for reference draw on the lines using a transfer pencil. Or if you want you can freehand it. I would suggest drawing them with a ruler and a fabric pencil/pen.

Depending on your skill level and the amount of detail you want on it, you can embroider as many of the details as you want on the tardis. Since this was a prototype for my idea I chose to make a simpler version of the tardis.

  6. Step 6

Stitch the lines on. I used a running stitch. If you google embroidery stitches you can find one that you may want to use more, but I liked the effect of the running stitch.

You can do this on both sides or just one. It depends on what you want it to look like.

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

If you want to add a ribbon on it: you need to start blanket stitching on the top and then loop the ribbon through the gaps in the fabric/stitches and then tie a knot under the stitches so it won't come out.

You can also tie a knot on the bottom of the ribbon before you do the blanket stitch around it (as shown in the photo)

  8. Step 8

Put the two pieces together and sew them together with the blue embroidery thread using the blanket stitch all around the tardis.
