Description

Here's a little step by step on how i made surprised bunny... he has no name yet cos i am selling him and if i name him i won't be able to let him go!

Instructions

  1. Small 5499

First build a skeleton from pipe cleaners!

  2. Small 5502

Wrap skeleton in white merino wool tops, making sure to pad out hands and feet and any areas you may want to stand out. You can use merino for this but i use off cuts from previous felting projects.

  3. Small 5503

Layers of merino are added and needle felted slightly to keep in place, you don't want too much fine detail at this stage as it will move a little as you begin to wet felt.

  4. Small 5504

Pay attention to areas around the neck and ears and joints. These will need a little poking with a felting needle to make sure they hold in place, other wise the white will show thru

  5. Small 5505

Half way wet felted, just his belly and back to go. Start wet felting by sprinkling a little hot soapy water on the rabbit. Start with feet and hands, then ears and face. You need to use a massaging motion to get the fibres to knit together

  6. Small 5507

Wet felted and now ready for the washing machine. I like this part you get an element of randomness and never know what they will look like when the come out! Felt the rest of the rabbit the same way, don't forget the back and pay particular attention to joints. Also make sure you felt the crotch or the body slips down the legs and you end up with a stunted bunny!

  7. Small 5508

And he came out of the washing machine looking like this... not a happy bunny! Then put bunny in a pillow case and tie with string. he needs to go in the washing machine... i put mine in at 40 degrees. Don't panic when he comes out like this, you then need to gently pull him into shape.

  8. Small 5509

Last stage, i needle felt his tail and features on.

  9. Small 5511

Finally add beads for eyes and sit him on a shelf. This one is a bit shock after everything he has been thru!
