My bff and I randomly decided to craft one night during a Kyle Gallner movie session (We think he's the cutest thing ever!) Well anyway, we were sort of digging through her room and came up with the idea to make our own feather clip ins. We talked about what we thought looked stupid and looked cool and came up with our own idea(s)! And hence, here is what we came up with! (Sorry these pictures aren't very good. I took them with my phone and for some reason, my phone isn't taking pictures the way it used to!) oh and if the picture seems too small and/or you can't tell what's going on in the picture, click on it. The picture will expand and you'll get a better look at what's going on! :)
We bought two bags of different feathers in color and size at Michaels. They are fake feathers too which I think is pretty cool because I'm allergic to feathers (sigh). They were also like four bucks together too. She had some feathers already at her house too. So basically get yourself a bunch of feathers, your t shirt, needle, thread, twine, hair clips and beads. Lay them out because if you pile them altogether it gets annoying.

This was the most challenging step for Jess and I. We went to three different stores looking for little kids hair clips that would have a little hole at the end. We finally found some hair clips at Walgreens for two bucks. They had butterflies at the end.
So at her house we had to basically SAW these damn butterflies off of the hair clips to get the plastic out of that hole in the clips with scissors and a box cutter. Hopefully, no one will have to go through that. It was horrible!
Take your shirt and just cut it into strips. After you've cut the shirt into strips, pull on the ends to stretch it out.

In one version we braided three strips together. It makes it easier for the feathers to stay in. After you've braided them take one end and attach a little piece of fabric to the top, slip the piece through the hole in the clip and then attach the other side of the piece to the back of the braid. Then stitch up the bottom of the braid and make it look pretty neat. You can do this by folding an end around the other strips ends.
In the second version we just took three strips and attached them together with a piece of fabric and then slipped the little piece through the hole in the clip and attached it also to the back.

For the braid, I just sewed beads in on the front side of it. I think it makes it really cool and boho I guess. So just take your needle and pull it through to the front, slide some beads on the needle then push it through and repeat all zig-zag-ish down the braid.

For the separate strips make some knots in it. When you add the twine to help hold the feathers in, it makes it look a little edgier.

On to the twine! It's not important, you don't have to add it but it helps to reinforce the feathers and make it a little edgier/boho-ish.
For the braids: Tie a knot on one end of the twine and pull it through the hole in the clip. Then tie it around the top of the braid. Wrap it around the braid and randomly knot it around. Just keep doing that until you reach the bottom of the braid and then tie it off.
For the strips: Like for the braid you have to tie one end of the twine and slide the twine through the hole in the hair clip. Tie the twine around the top of the strips and wrap the twine around one strip and randomly knot it until you reach the bottom of the strip. Repeat for the other strips as well.
For the feathers! Gather up feathers that vary in color and shapes. I sort of did themes with mine though. Jess went all out though!
For the braids: Stick smaller feathers up at the top through the folds in the braid and under the twine. I added the bigger and more vibrant feathers to the bottom.
For the strips: It's a little more tricky. I folded the edges of the bottoms of the strip around the end of the feathers and then stitched it up.

After you are pretty satisfied with where your feathers are located and such, it's time to bring in the hot glue gun! Just add a little dab of glue under the folds of the braid where the feather is being held in or where you've stitched the feather in.
Let the glue dry and then clip the hair-clip in under a section of hair and wear it around.
