Trace every side of your wood on paper.

Mod Podge your strips onto the sides of the 2x4. Wait to dry, then sand the edges.

Drill a hole for the pencil. If you want the pencil to tilt back, be sure to drill at an angle.
Add a pad of paper and call it great!
