  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Start off with a pre-washed cotton scarf. Fold into 2" accordion pleats lengthwise. If you've an iron handy, it will help to make nice crisp folds.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Cut rubber bands and tie around the pleated scarf about every 1 1/2". A tight binding will produce a more pronounced contrast effect.
Soak in warm water for about 10 min. This helps the fabric absorb the dye. Squeeze excess water from scarf before dyeing.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Mix well 1/2 cup RIT violet liquid dye with 1/2 cup salt and 1 gallon of hot water from tea kettle or microwave.
Dunk scarf in dye bath for 10-20 min. until you're loving the color. Remember it'll dry lighter.
Remove from dye, cut the rubber bands and rinse in water until runs clear. Wash it and wear it!!
Woo-hoo!! You're done and so easy, right??

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Here's the how-to on one page to make it easy for you in you want to give it a try.

    Have fun, friends!
