  • Step 1

CUT FABRIC FOR THE TIE. Measure around the doll's waist. Triple or Quadruple that measurement depending on how wide your going to make it and how pro you are at tying bows. Determine how wide you want it to be and add seam allowance. (I used about 1 cm) Then double that measurement. Cut out your long rectangle.

  • Step 2

CUT FABRIC FOR THE BODY. Hold a piece up to your doll and see how far around the waist you want the apron to go and how long you want it to be. I usually stop at about the middle of the hips on both sides. Add a little more to that for gathering later. Then add seam allowances on all sides.

  • Step 3

HEM THE BODY. Hem around three sides of the body piece. you can double hem or single hem depending on what you like. I suggest hemming the two shorter sides first and then doing the longer side to make it look nicer.

  • Step 4

READY TIE TO ATTACH TO BODY. take the long rectangle and fold it in half width wise, like a really long hamburger. Mark the middle. Unfold and fold it in half length wise like a hot dog. Iron if you want. Unfold and fold the two sides in to meet the middle. Iron again or hold it down with pins.

  • Step 5

GATHER BODY. fold the body in half width wise (hamburger) and mark the center. Unfold and Sew a running stitch across the unhemmed side of the body and gather it together by pulling on the thread. Tie a knot at the end to secure. If you have a machine, set your stitch length to the longest and sew along the unfinished side. ONLY BACKSTITCH ON ONE END and leave long tails on the other. Pull the bobbin thread to gather and tie the two threads to secure.

  • Step 6

ATTACH BODY TO TIE. Take the tie and fold in both ends. Pin. Then line up the center markings on the body and the tie. Fold the tie in half lengthwise and sandwich the body in between the two sides of the tie. Unless you made it this way, you body piece shouldn't be as long as the tie, but she be centered. Pin along the entire length and sew a top stitch to secure. TIP. sew closer to the body side so that you catch all the layers.

  • Step 7

    TIE IT ON YOUR DOLL.
