Medical face mask for cosplay purposes only!
 <  Image 1 of 3  >

I always wanted to make one of these and add my own little twist to it.

As I was browsing, I noticed some other versions of this and decided I'd show you how mine was done and hopefully inspire more of you to go out there and make your own!

These were made with measurements that fit my head perfectly so in the instructions below, I'll show you how to make yours fitted to your head... or, you can always replace the ear straps with elastic.

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

    Gather your materials.

Embellishments such as paints, iron-on transfers, stencils, etc. should be done prior to going on to step 2.

**Tip: if you plan on wearing it for a long period of time, you may want to choose a thin fabric that is breathable**

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Using pins, gather the shorter sides of the fabric so that your fabric is now 3in X 6in. I usually eye ball this part. There are a few variations on how you can make the gathers but you can do it however suits your taste.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

With your fabric right side up, open your extra wide bias tape and slip it under your mask so that the edge is resting right at the crease of the bias tape.
Now sew them together and just before reaching the end, cut the end of the bias tape so that it is flush with the bottom of your mask.

Repeat this step on the other side.

*I've chosen to sew on the inside because I didn't want seams to be seen on the outside, however, you can close the bias tape and sew on top or do what I've done and just use no-sew hemming tape to keep it closed.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Sew your double fold bias tape to the (a)bottom corner of your mask in the same fashion in step 3 and measure out (b)8in.
At the 8in mark, (c)begin sewing the bias tape across the top till you get to the end.
(d)Measure out 8in again and repeat along the (e)bottom and (f)overlapping the edge of your starting point.

*If you chose to use elastic, fold the mask over the elastic along the top and bottom.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

I like to iron my bias tape when I'm done to bring the creases back :D

    DONE!

For cereal, I love your face masks.
I've always made mine out of cotton - like scraps of shirts
but using bias tape would def help.
