It looks to me like your chain is too wide and too short. I was able to get a good twist on my earrings with 4 seed beads wide and 16 beads long. Also, I found that my chain didn't stay twisted unless the top ends were actually very close together (like connected with a jump ring). Good luck with any further attempts!
