Description

Simple to make, no sew tank top, made from an over-sized t-shirt, that takes very little time to make.

Instructions

  1. Small my pics 022

First, cut the hem off the bottom of the shirt, making sure the edges are lined up. Be sure not to cut through the strip you cut off either as I used the whole loop to tie up the back.

  2. Small my pics 025

Cut off the sleeves, just inside the seams. Then cut out the neck as well.

  3. Small my pics 027

Now you can decide how wide you want the straps and how low you want the neckline. I went by a tank top that i already have. The easiest way to get it even on both sides is to fold the shirt in half so that the armholes match up, it won't lay completely flat but just make sure it's not folded up under itself and that the side you are cutting is even. (I marked where I figured would be the best place for the tie, you don't have to do that but I wanted to be sure.)

  4. Small my pics 029

Then, you'll need to cut a deep v in the back of the shirt. So, having the shirt folded as you did to cut the neckline, cut straight down even with the strap of the shirt. (The reason you do this is to remove some of the bulk for the tie.)

  5. Small my pics 032

Now, get the hem you cut off in the beginning and cut off the stitching, so you just have a plain strip of fabric. Stretch it as far as it will go to make it curl up (just be sure not break it).

  6. Small my pics 033

This part you might need someones help with if you don't have a dressform, (you can do it with the shirt laying flat but it's easier if it's on someone). Gather the shirt across the back of the straps, and wrap the fabric loop around where the top of the tie will be.

  7. Small my pics 034

Pull the other end of the loop through the end your holding and pull it tight. Then start to wrap the fabric around the straps so that the tie is about two inches in length.

  8. Small my pics 037

Now this is a little tricky, cut the end of the loop and wrap one strip up the tie a little, then cross the two ends together at this point it will not stay wrapped around the tie so keep a tight hold on both ends.

Wrap the strips in opposite directions to the back of the tie, and knot them securely. Cut off the ends close to the knot.

Now if your tank turned out the right length then congratulations you've just made an awesome workout tank top, but if you're like me and didn't then fold it in half the same way you did to cut the neckline and armholes, and trim it to the correct length, I even made the back longer to give it something extra.

Congradulations! Now that you trimmed it to the right length you've just made an awesome workout tank top!!
