quick aprons for toddlers and children

I have a stash of pretty dishtowels in my fabric pile specifically for making these quick aprons for toddlers and children. They take very little time to make, so they're great when you need a gift in a hurry - just wrap one of these up nicely, maybe with some cookie cutters or small wooden kitchen utensils, and you're good to go.

I made this one for my neighbours' granddaughter. She's about the same age as Ruben and the last couple of days she's been coming up to play with him. We were baking yesterday, and she was a tad jealous of Ruben's apron, so I thought I'd make her one.

They're really ridiculously simple to make. All you need is a dishtowel and some ribbon. Here's how:

Instructions

  1. Step 1 1

    Take one dishtowel...

  2. Step 2 2

Cut the top two corners off as shown.

  3. Step 3 3

Sew casings for the ties to go through.

  4. Step 4 4

Thread tie through casings as shown.

  5. 5

Of course, you can add a pocket or appliqued detail if you wish. Or maybe some embroidery... Whatever you want. I always like to personalise them a little - an applique of the child's first initial is a nice touch. The way the ties are threaded through makes the apron adjustable in size, so the child should be able to wear it from toddlerhood until about 5-6 years of age I reckon - if not longer.
