  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Soak your tights in warm water for about 10 minutes. Then start with the feet and scrunch the tights all the way up to the waistband.

(Note: I prewash everything I dye to remove any sizing or treatments the fabric might have from the manufacturer. It effecst the absorption of the dye)

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Wrap the tights with rubberbands. The tighter the binding the more pronounced the effect.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Grab some rubber gloves and shake up your dye.
I used 2Tbsp of RIT Denim dye with 4 cups of very hot water from the kettle. Test your dye color with a scrap of fabric and you can adjust the color with more water or dye.
Remember: The dye will dry lighter, so keep that in mind.

(Note: I used nylon blend tights for this project but if you go with a cotton blend, add 1/2 cup of salt to your dye bath)

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Dunk your tights and agitate for about 20 minutes. Remove from dye bath and take off the rubber bands. Next, rinse in cool water til it runs clear, wash in mild detergent and hang dry.

    That's it, you're done!!

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

Oh, and here's that DIY denim tights in a one-page tutorial for easy reference.

    I'm nice, right?
