I was invited to a DIY craft/dance party last week. Oh. Yeah.
The theme was Canadian Tuxedo (you know, denim on denim). Decided to make superhero costumes. So now, I present to you: Denim Lad and the Indigo Wonder!!
I was a bad seamstress here. I didn't press my seams, and I sewed one cape against the grain. But this was just for fun.
1
I totally pulled this one out of the air. I didn't draft a format pattern, just pulled out extra fabric I had and winged it. This is for the lining of Denim Lad's cape. A large triangle works best.
2
Next, you can just cut yourself a little scoop at the peak of the triangle. Like someone took a bite out of it. Rude!
3
If you live in a tiny apartment like me, go ahead and use your bed as a workspace. Line up your denim and your lining fabric, right side in, and pin them together. You can then cut the denim to fit the fabric you have already cut.
4
Stitch those bad boys together! Sew the bottom and sides together, so you can pull the cape right side out from the top.
5
You'll see that the top is not stitched yet after you've pulled the cape right side out. Go ahead and stitch that. I think by hand is better, because you can hide your stitches.
6
I made straps for our capes that have snaps affixed at the ends. I went for about an inch and a half thick, but play it by ear. Again, sew the lining to the denim with the right side in.
7
And pull that right side out!
8
Next, I made cuffs for us. I decided the curve made a more natural and comfortable fit around the wrist. I sewed velcro to keep them fitted.
9
And then line everything with sequins!! They make everything wonderful
