I had a old jacket that I had for about 10 years and well I didn't wear it anymore and I really wanted a waistcoat. So I decided to make my own

take a jacket
(I used a denim blazer) -
cut off the sleeves
-
now take a peice of extra fabric and start to pleat it
-
now pin the pleated section to the back of the jacket and sew it on
-
now take a larger section of extra fabric, pleat it and pin it under the first one
sew this one on -
now I sewed my first pleated layer on a slight angle
(really have to stop watching tv while sewing)
so I added a fabric bow to one side -
now you have a snazzy waistcoat
