Very easy cross - stitch with a super cute result!
I've included my stitch chart and legend in the pictures - hopefully at a high enough resolution that you can print them out. This is my own design from start to finish, and I've made it easy enough (except for the two French knots) that even the most beginner cross-stitcher should be able to handle it!

  • Step 1

Before you start, decide on what colours of floss you want to use - they don't have to be the same as mine! This is a very simple colour palette, with only nine colours, and so it would be easy to adjust according to your preferences. Want a blue dress? Pick two shades of blue, one dark and one a little lighter, and substitute them in for the green. Want a different skin colour? Substitute them in for the ones I've picked. It's easy. Just associate your colours with the legend, and you're good to go.

  • Step 2

Never stitched before? Here are some great tutorials that cover the basics, right from the very beginning:

  • Step 3

After all the basic stitching is done, add the two French knots for the highlights on the eyes. (There's instructions for French knots in the tutorials in the last step, don't worry!) Or you could use tiny beads.

The back stitching around the eyes and mouth is optional. Some people like the more defined look it gives, and some don't.

  • Step 4

Add the seed beads for the polka dots in the skirt. The diagram shows them as empty white dots - but in case you find that hard to follow, try your own pattern. I followed the rule of 'three spaces down, three across'.

  • Step 5

One more element that I'd suggest that I didn't put in the pictures would be a necklace! Use gold embroidery thread and a tiny little heart pendant or bead to make you little cute girl some jewelery.
