A squishy heart 'button' shaped bag.

After I made my recent 'Cute-as-a-button Coffee Cosy', I decided to try my hand at a similar style bag.

Instructions

  1. Step 1 1

Draw a heart shape onto an A3 sheet of paper and use it as a template to cut 2x shapes from a tshirt.

  2. Step 2 2

Fold the heart in half and use to cut 4x heart shapes from felt (I used A4 sheets). Leave roughly a 1cm gap.

  3. Step 3 3

Cut off one half of the heart template's 'head' and cut a further 4 shapes from felt- don't forget the 1cm gap.

  4. Step 4 4

Pin the heart 'tops' to coincide with their place on the tshirt heart and use embroidery and a cross-stitch to sew on. Only sew along the bottom at this stage.

  5. Step 5 5

Pin the two hearts together, nice side in. Remember not to pin the two sides of the upper heart together- this is the opening. Baste (wide) stitch along the bottom to roughly the red lines.

  6. Step 6 6

Take 2x 25in pieces of rope for the handles. Using felt scraps, sew together a 25in x 2in stretch of felt. Leaving the ends of the felt 'open', encase the rest of the rope, pinning together as you go.

  7. Step 7 7

Use embroidery thread to sew the rope in then trim/tidy any jagged edges.

  8. Step 8 8

Sew the open flat ends of the handle onto each of the 4 heart curves.

  9. Step 9 9

Machine/hand stitch along the bottom on the bag where you tacked earlier.

  10. Step 10 10

Cut 2 heart shapes from the wadding, slightly smaller than he bag shape. Pin onto each side, careful not to pin the opening together. Base is complete.

  11. Step 11 11

Stitch each of the felt heart halves together with a cross-stitch and add 4x giant buttons in a 'square' arrangement. I used wooden buttons and painted them.

  12. Step 12 12

Use embroidery thread to do a simple running stitch around the entire bag/each side of the opening and done.
