  • How to sew a fabric food charm. Cupcake Keychain - Step 1
    Step 1

Cut out a rectangle from some brown/ beige fabric so that when it is folded in half (the fold should be at the bottom) it makes a square that is the size you want for the bottom of your cupcake. Now sew up the sides Or if you want you can use felt that is thicker and therefore does not need to be double up (I didn’t have any felt of the correct colour, therefore I used cotton fabric).

    Step 2

Next, cut out the top for your cupcake out of white felt, or whichever colour you prefer. It should be shaped a little like a triangular cloud.

  • Step 3

Sew the top of the cupcake on to the bottom (brown/ beige part) using white thread and then add different coloured sprinkles to the top of the cupcake making little ‘–’ stitches using yellow, pink and blue thread.

  • Step 4

Next add the eyes. Cut two small circles out of black or brown felt. And using white thread again stitch them on to the bottom half of the cupcake. The white stitches should be as circular as possible and form the white bit of the eyes.

  • Step 5

Next add on a mouth using black thread and rosy cheeks using pink thread.

  • Step 6

Cut out a piece of felt of any colour that is the same size or slightly larger than your cupcake this will be the backing to make it a little sturdier. Now sew this on to the back of the completed cupcake, I used white thread again as the stitching would be visible from the front. If you want you can add a little stuffing before sewing up the cupcake completely to give it a little more shape. Don’t forget to leave a space at the top to add a keychain. For my keychain holder I knotted up a small length of thick wool and sewed this to the backing felt before sewing everything together, but that was just what I had available at the time.

  • Step 7

    Now your keychain is complete.
