Directions follow. I didn't do a 'how to' because I didn't take photos along the way, and couldn't tell you what my pattern was because I didn't use a pattern. This was all free-hand, no stencils, so to speak. Anyway... I just got a new stainless steel water bottle, but it was leaving condensation all over my desk and, when in my backpack, all over my books and papers. So, I crocheted a cozy to make it look cool and to absorb the condensation. It's COTTON yarn because that will absorb the water better than, say, acrylic. Also, cool thing - the yarn is from one of my favorite sweaters. It was old, faded, out of style, stretched out and HUGE on me, but I love it just the same. So, I un-knitted it and wound it into balls of yarn. Now I can make a scarf and mittens to match my water bottle cozy, and still keep my epic sweater close by. Directions: 1) Single crochet a flat circle (find directions online or in a crochet book) to the circumference of the bottom of the water bottle. (You don't have to crochet one row bigger - it's crochet, it'll stretch.) 2) Single crochet one more row with no increases. 3) Crochet as you please any fancy stitches, patterned stitches, embellishments and what-nots until it's almost the height of the bottle. 4) Top it off with a few rows of single crochet. 5) Chain some edging around the top (see pic) to thread a string through. 6) Take three lengths of yarn, about a foot long, knot one end, braid them down to the bottom, knot again. 7) Thread the string through the chained edging and snug it up to the bottle, tying it with a BOW not a knot.! (Knots are hard to undo, especially in cotton, especially if it gets wet.) 8) Enjoy your snazzy new cozy. 9) Post your creation on CutOutAndKeep.
