I love the crochet hooks with large handle from Clover but the color is so dull. You can make your own crochet handles with polymer clay.
Gather your materials and use baking paper to work on.
Use about 15-16 grams of clay for each handle. Knead it until soft and make a long shape. Place the hook on the clay and push it into the clay.
Fold the clay around the hook and gently knead it and rubb it and roll on the surface until the seam is closed.
Use a different color clay to decorate it. You can leave it round or slightly flatten the handle, whatever your prefer.
Use a rubber stamp to press the crochet hook number in the clay.
Bake it in the oven according to the instructions on the clay wrap.
Let it cool off, hang it up on a string and use lacquer to finish it.
You're done, happy crocheting!
As an avid crocheter this has saved my hands so many times! You would nit believe the times I've had letters and numbers imprinted into my fingers...
thanks for the great tutorial...I linked to your instructions on my blog. ~ Cara's Handcrafted Crocheted Ornaments
I've been wanting to buy some hooks with big handles but they can be quite expensive. I've also recently started Polymer Clay projects so I have some around. Very good and creative idea, I'll have to give it a try, thanks!
i tried this crochet handle project. my handles came out sticky. so after a few days pondering, i discovered a solution for anyone who would like to know. i REMOVED the lacquer with rubbing alcohol. i just put the alcohol on a cloth and rubbed the handle for a few minutes. let it air dry. repeat this step if necessary. all done!!!!
Good idea, I've never tried crocheting with a large handle, it looks comfortable. I may have to try this.
Love this! Thanks.
Good idea!! I'm making a bag with a 2.50mm crochet hook and aaaaaah...my hand hurt soooo much!!! It's very helpful! Thanks!
