Cheap, fun and easy barrette to make
This was an entry for the "Pencil and Crayon Hoopla" over at Craftster and I chose to make hair accessories.

Although I used a sewing machine to put mine together, it could easily be adapted to just use the hot glue gun instead if you didn't have a sewing machine.

It is also very inexpensive to make - it cost me under .25 cents.

  • How to make a recycled hair clip. Crayon Barrette - Step 1
    Step 1

The amount of fabric will depend on the size of the crayon and the width you want the bow.

Mine was a jumbo crayon (6 inches long) so I used a piece of fabric that was 10 inches long and 6 inches wide.

Use the ruler, measure, then cut.

I cut a 2 inch strip off at the end of the 10 inches to sue to make the center of the bow (set it aside for now)

Fold the larger piece of half, right sides together, pin then sew on the right side and the long edge using 1/2 inch seam, leaving the left side open.

Turn the strip of fabric right side out and press.

Now for the skinny strip, going to do the same thing, except you won't need to sew the end closed as you will end up trimming it off.

    Step 10

To pretty up the edges, I turned the edges under 1/2 inch towards the back of the barrette and glued down so you don't see any ugly stitching on the top side.
