Corkboard Jewelry Holder

A simple solution for a small jewelry collection

I had been trying to figure out a good way to hold my necklaces and earrings. I don't have a huge amount of either so I didn't need a big earring tree or anything like that, just something fairly simple that would keep the stuff off my dresser, nightstand, etc. and could be a nice decorative touch to my room. So I came up with this.

I found a two-pack of corkboard at the dollar store that seemed to be a perfect size for my needs. It doesn't really matter what size or shape it is, that's totally up to you! Cut the fabric to be a bit larger than the corkboard, enough larger to be able to fold it over on each side.
Fold two sides over and glue them with regular old Elmer's school glue.

After letting it dry, cut the corners of the other sides so they won't bunch up at the corners and do the same folding/gluing again.
Since that a) looks horrible and b) would probably not be very secure, then glue some cardstock to the back and attach some picture hangers to the top with thumbtacks.

And, finally, use some masking tape to attach a line of lace ribbon along the bottom to put earrings in, and pushpins on the front to hang the necklaces on (which you can see in the finished pic above).

That's it! =) The only adjustment I'd make if I did it again would be to use both corkboards that came in the pack, because, as you can see, the pushpins actually went all the way through! It doesn't really matter because it's against the wall, but still, I'd check the depth of the corkboard against the depth of the pushpins if I were doing it again.
