Use up the free, or cheap fabric flowers that come with costumes or whatever.....

I really wanted a new flower for my hair, and had been meaning to buy one, as I can't make them look the same from scratch, then at the back of my drawer, I found some old, unnatractively shaped flowers, which I turned into this!

Instructions

  1. Step 1 1

Start with some strangely shaped or unnatractive flowers such as these, and....

  2. Step 2 2

remove the plastic stem holding the petals together in the middle. If your flowers don't have this, then experiment with cutting them apart to get the petals.

  3. Step 3 3

Once you have removed the back of the flower, you should end up with something like this. To this, you need to...

  4. Step 4 4

...pull any decorative plastic parts on the front off. (They are normally connected by a plastic stalk which is easy to remove) In total, you may have a group of flower parts that look like this!

  5. Step 5 5

Repeat the above for all the flowers you have - I had four with 2 petal group things each. These were a group of 3 joined slimmer petals, and a group of 2 joined wider petals. The 2 miniture red things were from the centre of the pink petals, they appear in yellow in the step above.

  6. Step 6 6

Next, cut a circle of felt with 2 small slits in it. This is how you will attach the flower to the hairslide

  7. Step 7 7

slide the circle on to the hairslide so that the thin bottom metal peice of the slide goes through the slits you made.

  8. Step 8 8

Make holes in all the petals (mine were pre-made) and slide all the petals on to a long pin, so you can adjust them until you get a fairly good idea of the size and shape of the finished flower.

  9. 9

Carefully remove the flower, being careful not to spoil you arrangement.

  10. Step 10 10

Keeping a long loose end of the thread untied at the bottom of the flower, stitch your button into the middle of the top, then bring the thread down through the hole and tie the loose end to it. (This just means you have a bit more flexibility and makes it easier to start sewing)

  11. Step 11 11

Take the remaining thread through the piece of felt on the hairclip, and stitch it tightly to the centre. then sew the edge of the felt onto the first layer of petals.

  12. 12

Tie off the thread, and trim the fllower to your satisfaction. Wear with pride!
